Step 2: Import Your Contacts

LinkedIn can import contacts from an email account you authorize, then show which of them are already members. If the address you have is in your own mail contacts, this is the most direct match there is. It only works if the person allows it: LinkedIn has a Discoverability by email setting (and a matching one for phone numbers) under Settings & Privacy > Visibility, with options ranging from Everyone down to Nobody. Members who chose Nobody will not appear. LinkedIn says ongoing phone contact syncing is no longer available, so use the email import. You can remove imported contacts afterwards.

Google it in quotes: "name@example.com". Resumes, conference pages, open-source projects and club rosters often pair an email with a name and employer.

If you are reaching out for business, a short, specific message beats a cold connection request.
